Badass HNT

It's hard to be badass when you're squinting into the sun...

...a silicate mineral of aluminium and fluorine with the chemical formula Al2SiO4(F,OH)2.

...crystallizes in the orthorhombic system and its crystals are mostly prismatic terminated by pyramidal and other faces.

...is colorless and transparent but is usually tinted by impurities.

...is passionate. A little nutty. And trying to be faithful.

This gem of a Mystery Guest will be revealed late Thursday afternoon. Be sure to come back to find out who it is!
If you made the rounds, you'd know that the MG is Topaz! If you haven't been by, congratulate her on her new job!

There's another good batch of submissions over at "...the Other HNT" this week. Be sure to stop by and leave some comment lovin'!
BTExpress' pool party is one month from today (7th)! Food, drink, fun (and varying degrees of half-nekkidness, I'm sure!). If you live near NYC, you should come out! But let BTE know--he needs a decent head count...
I don't want to get too terribly mushy, but a dear online friend is celebrating her birthday on Thursday. But she's tied my hands by not letting me post any old pictures of her, or showing her face. Then again, I could tell you that you might be able to find her in her birthday suit somewhere... Happy Birthday, BFD! Hope you have a great day and an even greater party!
Hope you've stopped by the OsShirt site recently. The final leg of the short Canadian trip is there, and that leaves the past couple of months yet to do. From what I understand, it's been a great spring/summer so far!

Hodge-podge. No bullets.

Hmmm...seems like all I do here is either do HNT, or apologize for not posting. Gonna have to work on that.

Summer hasn't quite hit yet, which is disappointing. While some of you are sweltering in heat and humidity, we have been above 80° only once so far. While it hasn't been exactly cold, we haven't broken any heat records either. We'll be stuck with highs only in the mid-70s until the weekend maybe. However, next week is forecast to be in the 80s. Just in time for the big summer concert!

Speaking of the big summer concert, it's less than two weeks away and I haven't done a damned thing in preparation for it. Partially because I can do all this in my sleep now. It's a well-oiled machine at this point, but damn, it's less than two weeks away!

Ooh! Did you see there's a new "Predator" movie coming out this weekend? Damn, I'm a sucker for those movies! (as I'm watching "Alien vs. Predator" right now...).

Had problems with both my car and computer this weekend. The car is overheating, and I don't know why. I'll need to take it in this week to get it checked out. The computer, on the other hand, was an easy, but time-consuming fix. My iTunes just decided to not work anymore.I uploaded the latest version, but that didn't help. Every time I restarted it, it would load the library, then "unexpectedly quit". I also tried to start an old program that apparently was having issues with the computer ( a Classic application, for those Mac users who know what that means). So I bit the bullet and reinstalled the OS. It seemed to work, though it's not a quick fix. Hopefully I won't have to do it again any time soon.

Due to the weather, and my less-than-reliable car, I opted to stay home to watch the fireworks. One of the perks of having a balcony and a hillside apartment. The big ones I would have been at could be seen (but without the impact of being close to them), and I got to see what everyone else in the valley was shooting off. I never realized there were so many people who shoot off the bigger fireworks, but they were all over the place! Might consider sitting on a bare hillside next year and take in all of them that I can!

Got some good news on the symphony front. Apparently everyone concerned was so happy with the way I ran the opera in April that I've been asked to run our production of Nutcracker in December. What that means for me is bigger bucks, but possibly not actually getting to play. I have a feeling that the money will win out. :-)

The Big Soul Band was enough of a hit that we're looking for more opportunities to play. Unfortunately, in a band with so many members, it's a task to find an open weekend for everybody. Looks like the end of August will be our next gig. Time to write more music!

BTExpress' pool party is one month away!!! Those of you close to NYC should consider going! Check his site out to get details!

"Words With Friends" -- you should be doing it! Figure out how to find me!

She's Gone HNT

Moose left for home this morning, bright and early. It was good to see her again. The whole "playing house" thing worked fairly well, and I'm so impressed with Operation Scrubdown that I might actually try to keep my place clean now!

The thing that was nice about her staying here is that we didn't have to worry about offending each other. We already know just about everything there is to know about each other. So the belching was tolerated. Scarfing down pizza and dripping beer on shirts was the norm. Stinking up the bathroom was accepted. Not an eye was batted when the farting started. I, on the other hand, avoided doing any of that, being the gentleman that I am.

I had a great upskirt shot of Moose as she was stapling a dollar bill to the ceiling of the York Bar. She deleted it on me, so I offer the next best thing from the night. Me in a spare pair of goofy looking sunglasses, and Moose after her Caesars and a Patron.

Once again, the man behind the camera shoots all his favorites -- beautiful wife, blues semi-hollow body guitar, and -- with a click -- a favorite view. Or rather, one of his favorite guitars and views. There is, after all, only one wife. ;)

This week's Mystery Guitarist will be revealed late Thursday afternoon, in case you want to know who it is!
Our lovely guitar model is the not-so-average Ivey Lane! Check out her wonderful pictures and posts, and stop to say hi, too!

"...the Other HNT" continues to bring in some wonderful pictures! Be sure to stop by and support your fellow HNTers! Yeah, it's NSFW.
It's Canada Day on Thursday! Be sure to stop by the OsShirt site to check out the Canadian leg of its travels!
Formspring box is over there in the sidebar, just waiting for you to ask me a question!
As a public service, I once again offer a video of a guy shooting a bottle rocket out of his ass. And in the sense of gender equality, one of a girl doing the same thing. (NSFW--language) I hope none of you do this over the weekend, but if you do, be sure to take videos, or at least some pictures!

I suppose I should get caught up here...

In bullets!
  • The gig on Friday night went quite well. The treatment we got was far different than what I think most of us were used to. The festival we played consisted almost entirely of acts from out-of-state. So the hospitality was kicked up a notch. We benefited from that. Coolers of beer/pop/water for the band (ah, just like the good old days...), a real stage to play from, with lights and decent sound, and the all-access green wrist bands for each of us. Far different from the weekly music thing that all of us have played for numerous times in the past.
  • Performance-wise, we did very well, but not perfect. We could have used just one more rehearsal with the full band. Part of our problem stemmed from sound issues onstage. One side of the band couldn't hear what the other side was doing. And whereas the last band I was a member of (which will continue to be nameless) knew, simply by a look, what the rest of the band was going to do next; this band doesn't have that telepathy yet. Not to say it wasn't tight, or that it was sloppy. We just had a minor moment or two that probably no one but the rest of the band wished they could get back.
  • We got a little bit of ink in the local paper the next day. People really seemed to like us! Our one thing that we did drop the ball on was length of our set. We ended about 15 minutes earlier than anticipated. And we heard about it from the organizing chairman. Sure, we could have repeated one of our first songs, as most of the crowd was filing in as we started our set, but that's just tacky. But we all agreed after the fact that we definitely need to work up more tunes. In other words, more writing for me!
  • Moose made it into town about 11:30 Friday night. We stayed up past 2AM to catch up on things. She wasn't repulsed by the apartment (or has been polite enough not to bitch), so I think Operation Scrubdown was a success! And after three days, it's still clean!
  • We've been out for beers, pizza (Howard's, for those of you in the know...), movies, and she's gotten to spend time with some friends and their babies. Tonight we ended up at one of our favorite hang-outs--the York Bar. We had the world-famous burgers, and she had her customary Ceasar, a particularly vile Canadian concoction. But the view was nice at least!
  • In a new twist to end an activity, she also celebrated with a shot of Patron. Known the girl for damned near 15 years, and didn't know she liked Patron.
  • Spent some time in symphony staff meetings. The summer concert is less than 3 weeks away. I haven't spent hardly a minute in working on preparations. I'll need to do that this week. Fortunately, having done this for the past 12 summers, there's not much that will catch me off-guard.
  • I have a meeting with the bass player from that band with no name mentioned above. We've got a wedding gig over Labor Day, and we need to come up with a plan. Again, after so many years together, it'll come together pretty easily. But we still need a plan.
  • I think I mentioned it last week (I'm too lazy to check), but Dad had another 18 liters of fluid sucked from his innards last week. He had a bit of the flu a couple of days later and was feeling pretty poorly, but he's doing better since the weekend.
  • Part of the success of Operation Scrubdown was donating a hide-a-bed and about 10 boxes of clothes to Good Samaritan. Clothes that I wore when I was teaching. Twenty-some years ago. No need to call "Hoarders" now!
Probably some other stuff to report, but I can't think of what it would be. Moose heads out on Wednesday. Most likely going to a concert on Friday night. Probably some lake shenanigans over the weekend (that's going to be a little weird). Damn. Summer's almost over!

Solstice 2010 HNT

As I do every year, I was up with the sun on the longest day of the year. Birds were chirping. Bunnies were hopping. There was a damp chill in the air still from the storms from the night before. Curiously, there were no joggers/walkers out at this time of morning, which really is odd. But it made it much more comfortable to be on my balcony just a bit more than half-nekkid for my annual Solstice Sunrise picture!

Of course, the clouds you see coming in blocked out the sun for most of the morning...

Not much to say here.
An angel who helped in a time of need.
To be revealed Thursday afternoon.
Come back to see!
Not too difficult to figure out this week's angel of mercy. I call her that, because she stepped up at the 23rd hour to be the MG. Thanks, Jobthingy! Be sure to stop by and thank her. And kiss her boo-boo from the earthquake...

Plenty of fellow HNTers to check out over at "...the Other HNT" this week. NSFW, as usual, but please stop by and leave plenty o' comments!
Go ask me an anonymous question over in the white formspring box!
Way back in 2008, Tony over at BTExpress started a project in his back yard that he got us all excited about. Replacing his small, plain pool with a much larger, much nicer pool. He spent most of the summer posting construction updates, pictures of the hedges and trees being taken out, and throwing in an occasional HNT with them. Then last summer, he posted the final results (click 'em to big 'em).

Shortly after that, he and I were chatting, and he mentioned how he wished people could come see it. It was at that point that I blurted out the obvious..."POOL PARTY!" Knowing that I've got some experience in the blogger meet up area, he asked how he should start. The first thing I suggested was to give at least a year's notice so that people would be able to plan. So he picked a date, and the rest is history. Well, maybe not history yet, but it will be!

We're at 45 days out now! The party will take place on Saturday, August 7th, starting in the mid-afternoon. And it's open invitation! Sure, many of us have gotten the personal invites, but there's so many newbies out here that he's asked me to mention it here and extend the invitation to all. I'll be there, as well as a couple of people from Texas, and other guests have indicated their probability of attending. He really needs to get a head count, plus none of you know where he lives, so here's all the details:
When: Saturday, Aug. 7, 2010; 2:00 PM - Midnight (at least)
Where: Long Island, NY (get details from Tony)
Who: Friends and Bloggerfriends of Tony (BTExpress)
Why: Official Grand Opening of his pool
What to expect: Drinks, swimming, grilling, profound conversation, probable skinny-dipping (based on trial parties already held), new friendships and good times.
Go check out his post from last year where he showed off his new pool. Let him know that you're interested in coming by emailing him (check his profile for his address). He'll be able to give you more of the details. Let's make this the most memorable blogger meet-up yet!
It's been a busy week here in the Land of Os. Final rehearsals for Friday's debut of the Big Soul Band; final cleaning for Operation Scrubdown; graveside services for my BIL; Moose's arrival sometime on Friday; symphony staff meetings--all these have pretty much kept me away from the computer since last week. Apologies for not keeping up with my "regulars"!

Change of Season

Spring went out with a bang on Monday. We were pelted with a pretty decent storm, a little hail, and then a steady rain for most of the night. But that paled in comparison to what happened in Billings (3 1/2 hours to the east). An F-2 tornado touched down during the late afternoon. Fortunately, no one was killed, and there were no real injuries. The biggest casualty was the biggest indoor sports/entertainment facility in the state. The roof was ripped off, as well as much of the siding, and the question now is whether it can be gutted and repaired, or torn down and rebuilt.

There's some great videos online if you google Billings and tornado. This one in particular is sort of a compilation of various videos. You can tell that Montanans aren't accustomed to the correct protocol when dealing with a tornado. Between the guy that videos the funnel directly above his house, to the constant flow of traffic driving past the complex as debris is blowing all around them.

While we didn't get anything like that here, it was dark and rainy all afternoon/evening. Until sundown, when the sun peeked through the gap in the clouds and mountains to make the most perfect rainbow. The perfect way to end Spring, and ring in the Summer! Click 'em to big 'em!

Hazmat suits optional...

Happy Father's Day to everyone who is a father, had a father, or wishes they were a father. It's going to be a bit subdued around here I think. Brunch is planned, but the normal clan gathering to chow down for dinner isn't going to happen. Dad's not feeling up to it (remember the post about the 2+ gallons of fluids drained from his gut? He goes in again on Monday for another round), and frankly, emotions are a going to be quite raw this Father's Day, as you could imagine.
I finished up the last of my music writing on Saturday morning! Took a late Friday night and an early Saturday morning to do it, but it's done. For now. It's going to be an ongoing thing all summer, but the pressure is off for now. And even in time for a Saturday afternoon rehearsal!
We've gotten our first decent weather in awhile, and I'm stuck inside all weekend. Since the music is done, all efforts have been turned to Operation Scrubdown. Actually had a good day of it today. I broke out the garbage bags, which is a major step for me. I think I just need to get to a mental state where I'm tossing out papers, etc., that belong to someone else. That worked pretty well today, though it was still tough to part with some of it. Visions of "Hoarders" helped me justify it...
I spent some time cleaning out (and simply cleaning) my fridge too. Oh, what an adventure that was! I found cans of fruit with "best if used by..." dates that were older than this blog. No fewer than 4 pickle jars (with no more than a half dozen pickle chips in each). Some old ranch dressing jars and mayonnaise jars with that last knife spread's worth of stuff in each. Now nicely congealed. And the coup de grâce, a bag of lettuce (I think) that was tucked in the very back corner of the lowest shelf. There was nothing left in the bag that remotely looked like vegetation. Whatever was in there had liquified, possibly eaten a hole in the bag, and leaked to the bottom of the fridge. And then dried out and crustified. So, since I'd emptied out and tossed most of what was in there, I took the next step and just went to town on the inside. It's all sparkly fresh in there now! Haven't decided if I'm going to tackle the freezer or not at this point. My big project for today will be my bedroom. It's not going to be pretty.
Had an interesting problem with my power company. I may or may not have been a bit lax in getting my payments to them. I received a disconnect notice the day after the funeral stating that my power would be shut off on Monday. Nothing like that to get a payment to them! Well, on Wednesday morning, just before heading to work, off went my power. No warning, no fanfare, no courtesy call. Just off. I contacted them as soon as I got to work. They had, in fact, received my payment, but didn't cancel the disconnect. No problem--it was early enough in the day that they would probably get it switched on again before I got home from work, but I was told that it could take up to 24 hours (to flip a freakin' switch???). You can see where this is going, can't you? I get home, and there's no power. I head back to work, so I can get HNT/OHNT drafted and scheduled. I get home and the power's still off. I did what little cleaning I could around with the evening sunlight still out. Then it got dark. And quiet. No internetz. No TV. No stereo. I putzed around on my iPod and my phone, until I realized that, by the morning, they'd need to be recharged. Oops. Took care of that at work the next day. The rest of the story...it took 4 afternoon phone calls, but the power was restored Thursday night. Just shy of 36 hours after it was turned off! THIRTY-SIX HOURS! Moral of the story? Pay your bills on time, boys and girls!

Not For the Birds HNT

Still working on catching up from not accomplishing anything from last week. Sitting on the side burner has been the music writing (almost done, though) and work on the OsShirt site. The big project to really fall behind was Operation Scrubdown. So I've been working on that to some degree and hope to really get a lot taken care of this weekend (I have to!). One of the first projects I took care of was my balcony.

For those who have followed me for awhile might remember that the birds around here like to fornicate outside of my bedroom window. Generally between the hours of 4:00 - 8:00 AM, but there's no time that isn't good for them. This year, I got proactive about curbing their procreation. There's a man-made hole in the ceiling of the balcony that serves no useful purpose, other than it makes a great nesting place. I duct taped that sucker shut in March, so that there was no access. The birds didn't like that at all, as you can tell that they've been pecking at it, trying to get in. When that failed, they started to build a nest in the corner of the awning just below that. I've torn that down twice, and I think they realize they've been defeated. I haven't seen any evidence that they've tried anything else.

However, the balcony was full of twigs, grass, leaves, bird poop, dead baby birds (you can read about them in the archives too), and whatever else the wind might have blown in. Making it totally gross to walk around barefoot. Even wearing shoes wouldn't help, as I'd end up tracking all that stuff inside. So I've reclaimed my balcony! I filled an entire big trash bag with the twigs, grass, leaves, bird poop, and dead baby birds. Then I took a vacuum to the really tacky astroturf carpet. And now, I can enjoy my balcony all day, if so desired! Half-nekkid in my bare feet! Enjoying a morning cup of coffee...

As a side note--I'm glad I took this on Monday, as we've had rain ever since, with days more to come. The good news is that it washes the bird poop off the ledges!
"You're written in her book
You're number 37, have a look
She's going to smile to make you frown, what a clown
Little boy, she's from the street
Before you start, you're already beat
She's gonna play you for a fool, yes it's true

'Cause everybody knows (She's a femme fatale)
The things she does to please (She's a femme fatale)
She's just a little tease (She's a femme fatale)
See the way she walks
Hear the way she talks"

This week's Mystery Guest isn't going to be revealed here. But if you do some looking around at this week's HNTs, you won't have much trouble finding out who it is. Think of it as a treasure hunt!

Another good week over at "...the Other HNT". Definitely NSFW this week, too. But don't let that stop you from dropping by and leaving a few comments! Your fellow HNTers always appreciate it!
See that empty white box over there in my sidebar? Go ask me a question! Anonymously!
Have you seen the new thing that Blogger has done for templates? They've finally given more template control over to the user! You should go check it out on your Dashboard. Of course, I won't be doing it any time soon, as I'm still using the "old" Blogger (some of you don't even know that there was an "old" Blogger!).

"Normal"

Trying to get back to some sense of normalcy around here. Nothing like a bunch of staff meetings for the symphony to bring one back the frustratingly mundane.

Hey! Dad's birthday is today! Seventy-seven. Wow. Also Ashly Star's bday too! She's not 77 today.

Ooh! "The Secret of My Success" is on right now. Helen Slater...mmmmm! As a side note...damn, the 80s were embarrassing.

Have you seen that Huggies commercial for the "denim" diapers? I'm not a big fan of diaper commercial, in general, but I really like that one!

Speaking of commercials, another one that caught my attention (and brought a tear to my eye) is the one for freecreditreport.com. And the news that they're replacing the band. Been there.

Speaking of band...the official name of the big soul band I've joined is (are you ready for this?) Big Soul Band. Good thing we make better music than original band names! Last week sort of put the pressure on me to get horn charts done as quickly as possible. I'm down to only four more left! The question has come up...can a hot chick and eight white boys from Montana play soul? We'll find out! Our first gig is at a local festival. Opening act. Opening for Michelle Shocked. Pressure's on!

Speaking of that night, that's the same night that Moose will be coming to visit! For those new to the game, she's my best friend, the one who got me into blogging, and one of the original HNTers. She informed me that she was staying with me for about 5 days. In my apartment. We've shared a motel room or two in the past, but we've never played house before. She's only concerned about the bathroom being clean, but I can't let her stay here in its current state. Now have a reason to do an intense cleaning of the whole place. And it's started!

Speaking of playing house, well, this doesn't really have anything to do with that, but I've got food to last me for quite awhile. While people have best intentions when they send food to families, there gets to be a point where food needs to be redistributed. My sister got eight (8!) whole hams. About four meat/cheese trays. Maybe half a dozen veggie trays (with dip). Cases upon cases of water, pop and beer. Casseroles. Enough bags of chips to last the summer out at their lake place. Far too much for one family to dispose of before things start to spoil. I got one of the hams, one of the meat/cheese trays, and a baggie or two of the veggies. Thanks Ray!

Farewell HNT

Well, I can't promise anything, but this should be the last reference to my brother-in-law's death. I can't begin to thank everyone individually for the condolences you've passed on to me and my family. But thank you all anyway. Of course, it's a little weird to try to explain to your sister that so-and-so from Alabama offers her condolences... Then again, they're all used to my flitting around the country to meet the funny people from the other side of the computer monitor, so they take it in stride.

I remember my first impressions of Ray. I was home during the summer of my college years. Dad was playing in the derby after the first round of the city golf championship (a derby is a mini-tournament among the top golfers, and there's betting action, a gallery following, cheering even...it's a golf thing). Anyhoo...Dad has made it to the fourth hole. A long par-5, with a severe right dogleg off the tee. The big hitters would cut the corner, but have to hit it long and hard and over some huge cottonwoods. The first two golfers took the safe route and hit the "safe" shot down the middle.

As Dad gets up to the tee, this juvenile delinquent in bib overalls, long straight hair below his neck, a full beard and a beer in his hand (maybe 16 years old) yells out, "C'mon Bud, hit it over the trees!" Now, that wouldn't have meant much, except that this same delinquent could have grabbed that club and easily hit it over the trees, outdistancing everyone standing there. So Dad steps back, re-aims for the trees, took a mighty whack at it, and promptly duck hooks it out of bounds on the left side of the fairway. That was the point where my mother informed me that that was my sister's boyfriend.

Ray cleaned up quite a bit from those days, but he still knew how to push my dad's buttons. There's a thousand stories I could tell about Ray. But I won't bore you with them. Let's just say that he was a gentleman, and a nice guy, and a hard worker. He was a people person, which he had to be in his position. Yet he was not one whom you could steamroll into a decision that he hadn't already thought out completely.

I've often times stated that I think it should be a rule that no one could marry before the age of 30. Ray and my sister are one of the exceptions that prove the rule. They were married for 25 years, and dated for about 5 or 6 before that. Sometimes that whole monogamy thing works! He's been a vital member of this family for over 30 years. He's going to be sorely missed...

Someone asked if there was any anger in the family. Not that I could tell. Couldn't be angry with him, as it wasn't suicide. And he was the most health-conscious one in the family (ran 3x/week, trimmed all the fat off his steak, only ate it well-done). Can't be angry at family, as there were no fights or conflicts among us. Can't be angry at strangers, as it wasn't an accident or other violent end. Can't be angry with God, as that generally has proven to be counter-productive. I think everyone is trying to focus on the good memories, as there's not really any bad ones that I'm aware of.

I thought about taking a picture of him lying in his casket for HNT, but that would probably be a bit too much, so I give you a picture of Ray (wearing his own version of the OsShirt!) and the rest of the Os siblings/husbands while drinking beer at Carlos'n Charlies in Cozumel. These are the times we're going to remember/miss the most. Gonna miss you Ray!

“ '...The blow job in the library is the very essence of it, the sanctified transgression, the campus black mass.' Janie weighed maybe a hundred pounds, no more than five feet tall, if that, a little blonde who looked as if you could pick her up and throw her around, and she was the college’s dirty diva….But she was neither stupid nor a slut. Janie was someone who knew what she was doing. She stood in front of you, small as she was….: this is what I am, this is what I do, if you don’t like it, it’s too bad..."

You might recognize this cute little behind. Or you might think you do. Or you won't. Regardless, she'll be revealed Thursday afternoon. Be sure to stop by and see if you're right!

If you got around to the HNTs, you should know who this is. It's Janie, over at "100 Ways to Be Perverse..." Stop by and see who the hand belongs to, too!

Got a nice crew over at "...the Other HNT" this week. My normal routine/schedule was a bit messed up this week, obviously, so be sure to check back later to see if any latecomers were added. As always, it's NSFW over there!
Stop by the OsShirt site to see what's been happening. Rumor has it that it's going to be headed off on a trans-Atlantic flight in the near future!
Got a question you're dying to ask me? The white box over there in my sidebar is the place to ask! Anonymously even!

Sad, sad, sad

It's been an ugly, ugly weekend. Lots of tears. Lots of laughs. Lots of a really weird combination of laughing and uncontrollable sobbing at the same time. I went to my sister's house on Saturday morning. The first two people who meet me at the door are my 20-something nieces. Who just lost their father less than 12 hours earlier. Then my baby sister and her husband, who just lost their best friend less than 12 hours earlier. Then I saw my mom, who just lost the father of her oldest grandchildren less than 12 hours earlier. Then I saw my sister, who just lost her husband, her soulmate, her best friend, the love of her life less than 12 hours earlier.

Actually, she was holding up quite well. Somewhat business-like, which is exactly what I would have expected from her. She wasn't sitting like a lump of jello in a corner feeling sorry for herself. She was gracious when meeting the string of guests and relatives that came over. Breaking down for a moment with each new person (as did the rest of us), then gathering herself and doing what she could to comfort those same new people. I don't doubt that she'll melt down at some point, but it won't be for a few days yet. That's the way she is. The nieces had friends that came over, so that was good for them, though they both ran back to their rooms for some alone time more than once. The poor dog looked lost though. She, too, lost her protector less than 12 hours earlier.

It's still not exactly clear what happened. An autopsy was performed Saturday, but the results won't be back for a bit. I won't go into details here. If you want to know, email me, and I'll be happy to fill you in on what I know. But I will say that it was his heart, he died immediately and quietly, in the five minutes that my sister went upstairs to get into her pjs and brush her teeth.

There's a Vigil Mass on Tuesday night, and the funeral on Wednesday morning. There's going to be hundreds of people there. Literally. Ray was a high profile person in this town. For a number of reasons. You can see the headline of the Sunday morning paper below. Not buried inside. Not on the bottom of page one. But the banner headline. R.I.P. Ray

It's never good when your mom calls you after 11PM.

My 47 y.o. brother-in-law (BIL2) just died from a massive coronary.

I might not be around for awhile...

Time for Bullets!

Some stuff in my head from the past few days:
  • Cranked out three songs last night in the span of about 3 hours. It's pressure, but once I get deep into it, the stuff just flows...
  • Famous people seem to die in threes. Though at this writing, John Wooden hasn't passed on yet, it seems that it's inevitable. Miss Ellie, the world's ugliest dog of 2009 finally put us out of our misery. And Rue McClanahan of the Golden Girls. Didn't you just know that Betty White would outlast the rest of the Girls?
  • Wednesday night, while finishing up OHNTs I was watching ESPN. Well, ESPN was on the tube. Celtics vs. Lakers. Which confused me greatly, since I didn't think the Finals started until last night. Well, they were replaying a game from the Final from TWO YEARS AGO! WTH?? My lack of give-a-damn certainly came shining through!
  • Speaking of sports... Should Bud Selig overturn the umpire's atrocious call and give Armando Galarraga the perfect game he rightly deserves?
  • In two vastly different emails from different people, I was called "gentlemanly" and "a nice guy". I can live with that.
  • Over the past weekend, I had the ringer on my phone turned off. If I hadn't, I would have been able to take the 1AM phone call I got. Reverse look-up told me that it was an unpublished land line in Atlanta (meaning it was 3AM there!). I checked with the handful of people I know from the area, and they all denied calling. Did I get a drunk call from one of you people???
  • Got word a couple of nights ago that I'll be having a house guest (apartment guest?) at the end of the month. All she requests is that the bathroom be clean. Well, I'm just a little too proud for that, so Operation Scrubdown starts this weekend. Squeezed in there somewhere between music writing, rehearsals and staff meetings. More to come about this one later on.
  • Noticed a sad trend with HNT. Yesterday there were only 48 "I'm ups". Forty-eight. Let me say right off the bat that I'm not approaching this as a comment whore. I could care less about the numbers on my own posts. But my HNT posts are more for YOU guys to come back to and see who else has joined in. Why the downturn in numbers? Right off the bat, it appears that people are forgetting. Plenty of HNTers who have been doing this for awhile forget to come over (or opt NOT to). Depriving many of us, particularly the newbies, from finding them. Also taking a hit, though minor, from those whom I apparently pissed off with my "sexblogger" rant a few weeks ago (which also shows me that they didn't really read all that I wrote...). Some of them took their gloves and balls and bats and made a new place to play. Whatever. Some of you play on both fields, which is nice. I'm not ready to consider that HNT is dying out, as I've seen this thing ebb and flow for years. But it's just odd to see less than 50 comments for something that once regularly garnered over 300!
  • I've mentioned this before, but I hope you guys are coming back to check out those who posted later in the day. There's been some wonderful HNTs that have gotten posted later on Thursday!

Soul-full HNT

As mentioned earlier this week, my June has unexpectedly gotten quite busy. A big chunk of that will be happening over the next week or so. One of the things I had assumed when joining this soul band (we still don't have a name..."That Soul Band" might very well be it) is that I would need to come up with some horn arrangements. What I didn't quite anticipate was that I would have to write ALL of the horn arrangements. Still not a big deal, but rehearsals have started, and I just got a potential song list over the weekend. So I now have to spend my free time writing. I took care of the most complex one, so the rest should be a relative breeze. I'll be OK if I can crank out at least two arrangements/day. Which is not totally out of the question. I just have to apply myself.

So my nights have sort of looked dreamy like this. Me with a blank-ish stare, and notes flying around me. In color even! I won't say who else has been in them... :-)

"The free bird thinks of another breeze
And the trade winds soft through
The sighing trees
And the fat worms waiting on a dawn-bright
Lawn and he names the sky his own.

The caged bird sings with
A fearful trill of things unknown
But longed for still and his
Tune is heard on the distant hill
For the caged bird sings of freedom."

--Maya Angelou

This week's Mystery Guest is choosing to stay a mystery. Of course, you could always shoot her an email if you think you know who it is!

Another wonderful crew over at "...the Other HNT" this week! Be sure to stop by and check them out! It's generally a little tamer than some weeks, but still NSFW...
You might see the OsShirt while out surfing this week. After spending much of its time in the South, it's finally come up north! No link to it, so you'll have to go looking for this week's appearance!
Want to ask me a question? The little formspring box over there in the sidebar is where you want to go! And you can do it anonymously!
I don't know how long this gmail feature has been available, but I just found it this morning. Or rather, it found me. I was sending some files to a friend. I wrote a brief blurb, and said I was attaching the files. But I hadn't attached them. So before gmail did its thing, a warning box popped up, said that I had mentioned attaching files, but hadn't, and did I really want to send this message?

I find part of that quite wonderful, and part of that quite scary.

So very busy...

...and "Dirty Harry" is on. Damn. Speaking of...that movie came out almost 40 years ago. Damn! And a final bit of trivia...the guy who played the creepy villain--the greaseball that kidnapped the busload of kids--played the Cardassian "Garak" on "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" for its six-year run! Damn! I hope you all appreciate the additional time wasted on this segment.
Lots happened in the past week that will be best done in bullets (geez...back to Dirty Harry!):
  • Found out some interesting facts about the McDonald's that was being torn down last week. As anticipated, they're going to build a brand spankin' new one there with an outdoor coffee patio and dual drive-thru lanes. On a more historical note, the old building was the VERY FIRST in the nation to have a playground built as part of the restaurant! All those dirty, germy play areas that have grossed out parents for decades exist because the people of Helena made it a success!
  • S1 was in town for the weekend. Meaning the family getting together a couple of times. My youngest niece was the only grandchild participating, so she got to sit in on the adult discussions. The highlight of Friday night was when Mom took out the boxes of "old" photos from the 80s and 90s. I think it was the first time she'd ever gotten to see her parents in their youth. Lots of dark hair, skinniness and goofy faces. It was actually the first time I'd seen many of them too, since I was out teaching in the day, so I missed out on her high school/college years. Amazingly, there were pictures of both me and S2 that we had to take second looks at because we weren't sure if they were really us or not!
  • Went to the Brewhouse for beer on Thursday night with Kamey, her brother and his fiance. Kamey is one of my beer drinkin' girls (when she's in town from Alaska), and was one of the earliest HNTers. She and I drank too much. My condition doesn't really allow for that sort of thing anymore, but I didn't even come close to my prior "normal" consumption. I might have to give up my title as beer drinkin' champion.

  • I met with her brother and fiance again tonight (only had one beer--even that made me feel a little loopy...). They are going to have the band with no name (remember us?!?) play for their reception over Labor Day. Putting the band back together just for the occasion, so we went over song lists and requests. Definitely looking forward for that gig!
  • I apparently did such a good job with April's opera that the Symphony wants to hire me for next year's opera in the same capacity ("Madame Butterfly", for those keeping score). Unfortunately, there's no rest for the wicked, as we've had a couple of production meetings for it already. We have a sponsor waiting to drop all sorts of cash on us for next year's show, so we have to have our Ps and Qs and Ts and Is all properly taken care of soon. Sort of hoped I wouldn't have to think about it for a bit.
  • Also on the meeting front has been production meetings for our big summer concert in July. Fortunately, there's not much to worry about there, as we've been doing it successfully for quite a few years. Still, it's another "thing" to take up my free time.
  • You might remember I mentioned a project in the wings for the summer. Well, it's taking off! I was asked to join a soul band. Lots of Temptations, Four Tops, Stevie Wonder, etc. What I wasn't officially asked, but had anticipated, was to write the horn arrangements for this band. Not a really big deal, but our first four rehearsal happen between now and Sunday. There's no way I'll have everything done. I just have to plug away on them when I can (during my free time that isn't Symphony related). I'm looking forward to it, but...
  • ...I spent the better part of almost 10 hours today in front of the computer as my music writing program crashed on me while trying to boot it. Add to that my ongoing router/wireless problems, and it was a frustrating day. Good thing it was raining all day so I didn't miss any activity!
  • It's been cold and rainy now for too many days. While I appreciate the fact that we need the moisture, this is getting really old.
  • The "Operation: Phain" project has gotten the short end of my stick. I'll come up with a plan, I promise. Fortunately, everything has been working out fantastically well for her, so that sense of urgency isn't there. But it doesn't mean we shouldn't do something!
So, to recap...rehearsals will be happening all this month; music writing will be happening all this month; opera and symphony meetings happening all this month; computer is being pissy; weather is crap; three-day weekend was shot to hell. It's June!
(really, it's not all as bad as that!)

Phain Update, and Requested HNT

PHAIN UPDATE! - I started out last week's HNT telling you about Phain's apartment going up in flames earlier that night, and a post the next day with pictures and everything. Well, while things are bad, they aren't as bad as they could have been. Far more "stuff" was able to be salvaged than ever thought possible. Mentally and emotionally, it's been a horrible week for her, but she knows where her faith needs to be placed, and she's getting through it. In her own words:
"There has been such an outpouring of support from everywhere – church, school, work, friends & family. We are so blessed to be a part of an amazing community and I know without a shadow of a doubt that God’s hand is on all of this.

Our immediate short term needs continue to be met - above and beyond our expectations. We do not need any additional clothing or toiletry items and are requesting local folks to direct anything they intended to donate to us - to take it to the Salvation Army (who, btw, along with the Red Cross have been AMAZING). We will hopefully move into the new condo this weekend and have donations of furniture arriving at that time and probably throughout few days after that. If anyone feels led to donate, even small amounts of $10 genuinely are appreciated and helpful - gift cards are probably easiest at this time: Target, Walmart, Lowes, Sears, or the universal Visa/AmEx gift cards are great and can be used anywhere. We've even gotten a few Starbucks and McDonalds gift cards that the kids have been really excited about. Well...I'm probably more excited about the Starbucks than they are, but you get my point.

All that to say this: We are doing good. Really good. Better than I could have fathomed last week as I sat and watched that building burn. God is good. God is faithful - and He has me and my children in the palm of His hand. Yes, I've been sad and I've cried - hoooo boy have I cried - but one thing I've never experienced throughout all of this is dispair. Because I KNOW that God is taking care of my family and will continue to take care of us - through the love and support of our friends, family, and community." /endsermon
So there you have it. If you are so inclined, gift cards are the way to go. I haven't thought this through yet, but I think that any gift cards should be sent to me, to forward on to her. She's not gung-ho about letting everybody know her name/address. Friday's post will have details, but think about it now. Can gift cards by purchased online? I think they can... Ten, twenty bucks? More? Seems like a no-brainer to help out one of our own!
I'll keep this short and sweet. I was emailing with someone last night, and they said that they wanted to see a picture with my hands. In exchange for an OHNT picture. Terms of the agreement have been met.

Anyone who's been around for a decent amount of time should be able to recognize this week's Mystery Guest. Is it because of her legs (that never seem to end)? Perhaps it's the pink cowboy hat that has appeared in so many of her HNTs? Or is it because she has once again gotten her hands on the OsShirt (more than anyone else so far!)? It could be any/all of these reasons! While the view here ain't bad, I think my point of view is much, much better!

If you know how to find her, be sure to drop by and say hi! She'll be revealed late Thursday afternoon.
This shouldn't have been too hard to figure out, except for the newer people here. Of course, it's Q from Hooked on Quack. Once again, she had to abduct the thing. She's got a nasty mean streak, I tell ya! BTW--her site is invite only, so if you need to, you can go to her profile and ask her to let you in!

Be sure to check out "...the Other HNT" and see what your fellow HNTers have been up to! Leave them some comment love, too (right now, less than 1% of all visitors over there leave a comment. And that isn't a number pulled out of my ass--just last week (Wed-Wed), that site got 13,424 page loads, and 5,982 unique visitors, resulting in a whopping 31 comments. That's a .518% rate of comments. In other words, roughly 1 in every 200 visitors leaves a comment. But that's skewed as well, since those who DO comment, generally leave multiple comments. People are looking, but they're not talking! Do something about that today! Oh, yeah...NSFW!
If you want to see more of the OsShirt adventures, stop by the OsShirt site! New pictures are up, and a fancy new map that shows where it's been and who's been seen in/with it! And best of all, it's almost current!!
Getting some interesting questions submitted through that formspring box over there in the sidebar. Keep them coming! Anonymously, even!
If you didn't see it earlier...my mom made the local paper (no, not the police reports). You can check it out here (they captioned the picture incorrectly--Mom's on the left).

Oh, what have I done??

Since leaving the hospital, I've been to McDonald's only once, and that was in Indy. So imagine the guilt I now feel as "my" McDonald's, the one just down the street from me, looked like this today. Had I only known that they depended upon my patronage to keep their doors open...(click it to big it to really see the carnage).

This day at work seems to be just dragging on, so why not write a post?

Part of me thinks I should wrap up this whole 5th anniversary thing up with one last post. I was thinking I should do a "state of the union" sort of thing, but was told in no uncertain terms that I shouldn't. It was suggested that I pick a few of my favorites of my own HNTs over the past five years. But I do that for the year-end thing anyway, so nothing really gained there.

I could write about how wonderful it was to see some names from the past join in for the anniversary theme (I guess I just did, didn't I?). Same thing with the Favorites post from the day before. I was really impressed with the number of people who did join in with the theme. Even the ones that didn't have to go too far back. As expected, most of them were on the tame side, simply because most of us took a tentative step in our initial HNT. Some of you took to a variation of your first, which was cool too.

I could discuss the good and the bad about HNT, but I want to maintain a positive tenor here. (I know! What's wrong with me?!?) Besides, the bad stuff is the same stuff we've dealt with for years. The good stuff? You can't get enough of that! But I'm not sure what I'd discuss.

I guess what I should focus on would be thanking all of you. There was a lot of "Thanks, Os" sort of sentiment among the posts this week. I guess I feel it's misdirected. It should be "Thanks, HNTers!" Because ultimately (and I've said this before), HNT is not about me. It's about YOU. If it were about me, it would have died within the first week. Yes, it might have been my suggestion, and yes, I push it and publicize it and promote it, but it's not me. It's YOU. So thanks to all of YOU!
Good news on the Phain situation! She was allowed back to her apartment to salvage what she could. And surprise! surprise! She was able to salvage quite a bit. Water-logged, but definitely not ruined. Enough that a friend brought over a big box truck to move it away. Much better than a pick-up truck! So, even after my heartfelt post below this, I'm still going to organize something after I talk with her. And GREAT news...the cat was found hiding in the closet!
Hey! S3 just came to visit me at work!
Ooh! Shiny thing...!

Imagine

Imagine this for a moment. It's early in the morning. You wake up, but don't quite recognize your surroundings. You walk into the bathroom to take a shower, but when you step out afterwards, you have no towels to dry off with. Your toothbrush and basic toiletries are also missing. You put on the shirt you wore the night before and head to the kitchen for a bowl of cereal. But when you open the cupboards, you can't find any dishes. And no silverware in the drawer. Or any cereal, for that matter. Instead you opt for scrambled eggs, but can't find a pan anywhere. Which doesn't matter, as there's no eggs in the fridge. Or milk. Or OJ. In a daze, you head to the living room to check your email. But there's no furniture. Or computer. You look around, and notice that the walls are bare. No pictures. No artwork. You decide to watch the morning news. But there's no TV. And it dawns on you that you can't read a book, because there are none to be found. You go back to the bedroom and put on the rest of your clothes from last night. Then it dawns on you that you've been awake half the night, unable to sleep. And then reality hits...

Does this sound like the beginnings of a bad novel or what? Well, it's happening in real life, right now. I mentioned on my HNT that Phain's apartment burned to the ground. It happened early last night. She has lost everything. Neither her nor her kids were at home when the fire broke out, so there was no chance for an heroic attempt to save anything. No pictures of the kids, parents, grandparents... No heirlooms. No clothes. No valuables. No toys. Still don't know if the cat made it. Everything gone. Wrap your mind around that for a minute and what that really means... Not damaged in a flood. Or some things stolen. Everything but the clothes on their backs is G-O-N-E. Burned. A pile of ashes. Non-existent.

Except the iPhone. How do I know she was awake all night? We texted for a bit, and it was well past 1AM my time. And she's on the east coast. At that point she was still in that suspended place between disbelief, grief, and exhaustion. She just needed to talk (not sure why she just didn't call, other than I would have kept her up for another hour or so...).

Based on what I've read on her FB, she's got a huge church family rallied around her. A generous outpouring of food and clothing donations has already come in. People have already offered furniture. No place to put any of it yet, but she's working on it. As she wrote, she feels quite blessed, and hasn't felt any despair. She's confident that God is going to take care of things. She's staying with her best friend, and her kids are staying with their father (one of those times that joint custody is a real blessing). They at least have some stuff over there, including clothes and "things".

Many of us were friends with Phain when she was HNTing. And even after she quit. I'm not sure what I'm going to do, but I have to organize something. While her short-term needs are being taken care of, it's going to take months to re-stock an apartment to its previous condition. I'm thinking of some sort of PayPal thing, and buying gift cards for her. I don't know. Any ideas that you might have--I'd love to hear them. I'll be calling her over the weekend to see what we can do for her. I have no doubt that her friends in the church will be taking good care of her, but I hate feeling helpless from afar. I hope that you do too, and would be willing to fork out a few bucks to help her out. Some of you more than others--you know who you are...

I leave you with pictures from the fire, and this morning's aftermath. Pictures of the fire from someone I assume was a neighbor, or possible tenant. The aftermath pictures (click 'em to big 'em) were taken by her daughter...

We should all start the day like this...

5th Anniversary HNT!

First off...say a little prayer for Phain (Remember Phain? Longtime HNTer/OHNTer/two-time MG/two-time OsShirt recipient). Just got word that her apartment building burned to the ground today. She and her kids are safe, but they have lost literally everything. I'll let you know what, if anything, we can do.
Be sure to check the post below this one too. A list of my favorite HNTs. A great blast from the past, with a new one just added today!
OK, on to the business at hand... It was five years ago that this little venture started from such humble beginnings. Thousands of pictures, and hundreds of participants later, it shows no sign of stopping. To start off this long post, I'll repost the Guidelines for HNT. These haven't changed since the day they were written. Granted, some of them are unneeded or outdated. But I keep them in anyway. I know that there are many of you who have never seen these. Please take the time to read them! As always, you can click on any of the HNT badges/buttons and find them, too!
The Guidelines

I offer these guidelines for "Half-Nekkid Thursday":
  • In that North American, Puritanical way that most of my readers think, "Nekkid", or its variations, somehow insinuates sex, or its variations. WRONG!! The purpose of "Half-Nekkid Thursday" is not to see sex acts! It is the celebration of exposure. Of your big toe. Of your breastbone. Of your knuckles. Of your uvula. Whatever. Of course, sex acts can qualify, so if you want to post those.....
  • "Nekkid" is not the same as nude! Again, nude qualifies, but it is not a requirement!
  • Pictures should be taken of you or by you. Don't be going to some internet site and downloading "Half-Nekkid" pics. And don't use Uncle Bob's pictures from Spring Break '72, either. Let's try to keep this fairly "real".
  • You don't necessarily have to be the subject of the picture. By the same token, if you're not, then the subject(s) should be known to you. No fair going to the beach and snapping pictures left and right. Yes, they might be "Half-Nekkid", but they don't follow the spirit of "Half-Nekkid Thursday".
  • While animals can be included in a "Half-Nekkid Thursday" picture, they are not the focus, therefore cannot be the subject. If an animal is all that keeps your picture "Half-Nekkid" rather than "Full-Nekkid", that's OK.
  • You are allowed a very limited number of cute-kids-in-the-tub type of pictures. We're interested in YOU!
  • Use some originality with your shots. Facial shots should be limited. Artsy body landscapes, conversely, are highly encouraged. If a partner/family member is needed to take the picture, that's OK.
  • Props can help you with creativity, and their use is encouraged, but not necessary.
  • As we get into this, you may find that you want to post more than one picture for "Half-Nekkid Thursday". I would discourage this practice unless absolutely necessary. You should hold some pictures in reserve, in case you find yourself without a new picture down the road.
  • While I can hardly control when you post pictures on your own blogs, let's try to keep "Half-Nekkid Thursday" special, and post "Half-Nekkid" pics only on Thursdays. If you feel the urge to post them more than once a week, I might recommend just emailing them out, rather than posting.
  • Tattoos are certainly an acceptable subject, regardless of location. Scars are also acceptable, but please respect the others who visit "Half-Nekkid Thursday" on a regular basis. Spread out the scar pictures over a few weeks' time, please!
  • Speaking of scars--If you use a picture of a scar, it must be accompanied by some sort of humorous anecdote as to how you got it. For a long, but good example, go here.
  • Other skin conditions might not be acceptable, due to good taste. These include, but are not limited to warts, zits, lesions, ingrown hairs, boils, open sores, peeling skin, scabies, rashes, or any other assorted gross things. I'm not saying that you can't post them. Just use your best judgment, for the sake of the rest of us.
  • When referring to "Half-Nekkid Thursday", please spell it correctly! Not Naked, not Neked, not Nakid. It's "Half-Nekkid Thursday".
  • It's very important to not be dissing other's submissions! We're all going to have half-hearted entries from time to time. None of us is better than the other. One the other hand, it's completely acceptable to heap praise upon those that deserve it!
  • IMPORTANT!--Remember to visit my current "HNT" post and leave a comment indicating that you've posted a picture for "Half-Nekkid Thursday". Consider my blog as the informational kiosk for "Half-Nekkid Thursday". You'll be able to see who is joining the tradition. Commenting is much easier for all concerned, rather than updating my blog each time someone posts their picture. I will try to keep the Blogroll in my sidebar updated each week.
I hope that these guidelines help all of you. Get those cameras going!
Back in the simpler days, when all I thought HNT would amount to was a tummy, or a bare shoulder, or an earlobe, this was the sort of half-nekkidness that we expected to see. I even started out by pushing the limit! I sort of hit the gross factor right off the bat! That's a nasty blister that formed and popped during a round of golf five years ago. But for what it's worth, it's the very first official HNT picture. To the right, the same heel and the same parking lot, but sans blister. You can click 'em to big 'em, but that would just be weird.

I love to touch her skin.
Soft, delicious skin on legs, belly, erect breasts, succulent lips.
I love to touch her skin.
Our mouths, with gentle suction, pulling and drawing.
Our tongues, entwined in rhythmical dance,
sliding, swirling, simulated movements when united.
Thick protrusion enters her skin,
Her skin, I love to touch.

The first time we touched, I held you so tight
that feeling I felt only felt so right.
Things were moving kind of fast and I wanted more
You made me feel so comfortable and said once more
We are miles apart and I wonder when I will see you again,
I can't wait till I kiss you, hold you, and just see you....
My sexy mystery friend.

This week's Mystery Guest will be revealed Thursday afternoon. Thanks to her secret admirer for the words.
The MG this week is Crystal, but it seems like many of you had that figured out! Stop by to say hi anyway!

Based on the early returns, it's going to be a little sparse over at "...the Other HNT". I offered it as a place for former bloggers to join in on the festivities if they wanted, but I haven't heard from any of them yet. I hope they're not all waiting until the last minute! So I don't know what's going to be over there, but let's assume it's NSFW like usual!
I've been getting some interesting questions over there in the formspring box in my sidebar. Keep them coming! Anonymously, even!
Go check out the OsShirt site in the near future. OsShirt v.3 will be showing up there soon. It's been quite active as of late, and will be taking a trans-continental vacation this summer! You might even get to see it somewhere among this week's HNTs, too!
Many of you might have received some lovely spam from my gmail account. Gmail even shut me down and made me jump through hoops to get back into my own account! And then last night, my ability to send emails was temporarily suspended (it's back now) because "I" had sent out too many undeliverable emails (that would be the spam filters on your end). Some research shows that if you clicked the link provided, your computer was not infected at all. Just urged to by Viagrow. If you received this link from me, please consider buying some Viagrow. I'm hoping I can get a commission from the sales. (I also hear that Daniel from "29 Pearls in Your Kiss..." got spam sent out under his name, and I got one last week from Roximoon. What's up with Gmail???)
OK, I only had one person who wanted to send their anniversary tribute to OHNT, so I'm going to put her here. This is from MamaKBear:

Here are my pics...my very first HNT was in Oct. 2005, and was a picture of my hand with my baby daughter's hand in it. I took a recreation, and the anniversary HNT pic is of my hand and my now 5 yr old daughter Meghan's hand. :) How fitting that she is 5 now also!
