I Have a Bad Feeling About This...

Saw the last of the Indiana Jones movies this afternoon. It struck me how old Karen Allen has gotten (she looks older in the movie than this picture). It's not that she's not attractive still (she is), but I'll always think of her as she looked in her first big movie role in "Animal House".

But Harrison Ford? He's definitely aging! Have you seen the previews for "Cowboys & Aliens"? (a side note--I don't go to the movies much, but I'll definitely be going to see this!) Like all good leading men, they just get better with age (though he looks older than this in the previews), but what a difference from his first movie appearance in "American Grafitti"!
Another Harrison Ford thought... Any chance we'll get to hear him utter that most famous "Star Wars" line once again? Specifically, "I've got a bad feeling about this..." It's used in every one of the Star Wars movies. In addition, Ford says it towards the end of "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull". Will we hear it in "Cowboys & Aliens"? Anyone want to put money on it?

Lots of death this weekend. The massacre in Norway is just horrific. And in Texas, there was a murder spree at a roller skating rink. I just don't understand how one's mind can get to the point where the body would allow it to do such a thing...

Unfortunately, the big death story seemed to be Amy Winehouse. I'm sorry...I can't feel a loss over this one, and am sort of disgusted by the adulation she's getting. Let's be perfectly clear...she's was a drug-addicted mess. She was not a musical superstar. Yes, there was talent, but she didn't bring anything to the table that wasn't heard already. And perhaps that's why she got as far as she did. She channeled the true musical giants of the past. But the fact is...she wasted her gift away. When a generation worships a caricature such as she turned out to be, it's a sad state of affairs. Shed a tear for the death of a soul, but don't attribute anything more to her than she's due. She certainly didn't do anything to be particularly proud of...
Only 5 months until Christmas!!! Do you have your tree up yet?

  1. These massacres are heartbreaking. The images have left my stomach in a knot. There's no part of me that comprehends them.

But... I have to disagree with you about Amy Winehouse. I think she was a genuine talent and that Back to Black is an incredible contemporary soul album (also thanks to her collaboration with Mark Ronson). The demo version of 'Love is a Losing Game' featuring her vocal accompanied by an acoustic guitar is pure, raw and aching with loss and longing.

There's no disputing she was a mess but, for me, her talent far exceeded many of those who receive far more air time. If anything, my heart goes out to the ones like Winehouse who feel they require the intoxication in order to quiet the voices or to settle the overload of sensation and feeling or to numb the pain.

(Damn, that was long winded! x)

  2. I'm so looking forward to Cowboys & Aliens!

The stuff in Norway is so heartbreaking.

The event in Texas? I used to live in that area and go to that skating rink as a kid.

And damn, it is only 5 months to Christmas. Time flies sometimes.

  3. I have to agree about Amy. I have no simpathy for abuse of any kind.. no matter how talented the person. I'm had my share of heartbreaks and demons in my life but I could never let myself get to a place to destroy my life or any others.

  6. Totally agree with you about Amy Winehouse.

Harrison Ford will still be sexy if he lives to 100.

  7. Easy to say these things about Amy Winehouse, but it's well known these drug dealers get their hooks early into these talented young things who at the end of the day have plenty of time to fill and plenty of money to spend. Someone got rich from destroying her & many others like her, going back to Ella and before, let's save our condemnation for them

  8. Harrison Ford is one of my favorite actors EVER... and yes, I'm sure we'll hear that line...!

    Those massacres were heart-wrenching. :(

Amy Winehouse, not so much... I'm on the same page as you as far as my lack of being impressed with her non-talent :/

And pssst... I know some people who never took their tree down from LAST year!! they'll be back in style in about 5 months LOL

  12. Loving Harrison and very sad about both Norway and Amy, even though the latter was not unexpected.

That fabulous album came from her unhappiness and confusion about her relationship. She tried to replace the man with drugs but they could not produce the same emotional outpourings. She drained her soul attempting to achieve something that was impossible.

  13. We saw Cowboys & Aliens yesterday. I wish I would have seen this post before now and been listening for this phrase.

BTW: It is a very good movie if you like westerns.
