Was that not the absolute worst performance of the National Anthem that you've ever heard? Forget screwing up the lyrics! Just her entire performance... Where is the public outrage? How does the public let those in charge of these things know that we're tired of this crap? Why didn't that quartet of young girls from Dallas get to sing it? Or bring in that guy Chicago used during the playoffs? It IS possible to get a decent performance of the song, you know!
Don't ask my opinion about the halftime show...
You want outrage? Go visit Gucci Mama!
ReplyDeleteI could not agree more. Why, oh why when there are so many GREAT singers, do they keep picking these people? I understand they want a star, but I swear there are big names who can sing our national anthem with respect. And ability.
ReplyDeleteI off to read Gucci Mama's version.
I hear ya. Everything but the game itself sucked! I understand that they want star appeal for the big game but seriously, is the Superbowl hurting that much that they need to resort to someone who can't even get the words right? It's the Star Spangled Banner for gosh sakes.
ReplyDeleteLMAO! And now I can't get it right, our National Anthem, excuse me. ;)
ReplyDeleteXtina owes me a hotwing! Her atrocity caused it to launch out of my mouth!
ReplyDeleteOhhhh! There was outrage, but it was on twitter, not facebook ; )
ReplyDeleteCome to the dark side ...
I love music in all its forms, in all its variations, but one thing I am a purist about is the national anthem. Good grief, WHY do we keep insisting on picking "artists" who aim at but never hit the note in question and INSIST on wavering over, around and above and below it? Why this incessant need to embellish instead of just singing the song "straight"?
ReplyDeleteThe Anthem needs to be left alone and sung traditionally. I was fuming too when they finished.

Having had to memorize all FOUR verses to the Star-Spangled Banner at the US Air Force Academy, I often sing along with patriotic fervor (If I'm Home Alone).
ReplyDeleteShe "faked it and made it" so well that I almost couldn't believe I had heard Xtina's lyrical screw-up as it happened! Numbah 10, PartyGirl! :(
